Karen Smythe talking with families
Karen Symthe talking with a business owner

Karen Smythe knows the Hudson Valley. Born and raised in Poughkeepsie, Karen became the fourth-generation to run her family’s construction business, C.B. Strain & Son.

Karen understands the importance of good jobs that pay a living wage. Under Karen’s leadership, C.B. Strain employed hundreds of employees, and—as the company prospered—so did its workers, subcontractors, and suppliers.

Karen is committed to building a stronger Hudson Valley. She has served as a Trustee of Vassar College and on the Boards of the Bardavon Theater and the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum. She’s also been a Sunday school teacher and a soccer coach.

Karen and her husband, Nevill, raised their own family right here in the Hudson Valley. Now, Karen will fight to ensure future generations have the same opportunity.

Karen’s Promise to Hudson Valley Families:

  • WORK to increase jobs and economic opportunities in the Hudson Valley
  • STAND UP for taxpayers and workers
  • EXPAND access to affordable healthcare
  • ENSURE our schools are well funded and support investment in Career & Technical training
  • PROTECT our environment and push for more green jobs
  • PASS common-sense gun safety laws
  • COMBAT discrimination and promote equality
  • MAKE Albany work for the Hudson Valley
